Horsemanship Clinics – Just Equus - Join Us

Just Equus holds five different types of horsemanship clinics; Foundation Horse Clinic (Confidence Clinic), Team Penning Clinic, Mechanical Cow & Obstacle Clinic, 2.5 Day Stock Camp Clinic and 5 Day Colt Starting Clinic.

To participate, riders should be 16 years of age and over.

Cancellation policy: Foundation Clinic, Team Penning, Mechanical Cow &Obstacle Clinic, a minimum four weeks prior to the clinic to receive full refund. Cancellation policy for Stock Camp Clinic and Colt Starting Clinic, is non refundable.

Just Equus Horse Clinics are predominately held in South East Queensland.  All of our horse clinics focus on rider / horse participation and providing one on one time with Peter Biggs, Just Equus’ Horse Coach. Our horse clinics are very popular and always sell out well in advance; book early to reserve your place. Spectators are welcome to attend for FREE for the One Day Foundation and Mechanical / Obstacle clinic. For the 2,5 Day Stock Camp Clinic, 5 Day Colt starting clinic and Team Penning Clinic, spectators fees applied.

One Day Horse Clinics

Just Equus Foundation Horse Clinics (Confidence Clinic) are suitable for riders wanting to improve their confidence, communication and understanding. We cover the common issues and problems and provide real practical advice, to assist with your learning and development.  Our Clinics are specifically designed to improve and build confidence between rider and horse.  Ground work and ridden exercises include; back up, soft feel, flexion, disengaging hind end, lunging, walk and trot transition, and obstacles.

This clinics suit riders of any level of experience and discipline. Morning Tea provided, riders to bring their own lunch. Spectators welcome to attend for FREE.

Just Equus’ Team Penning Clinics are designed to help riders control their horse and position a cow.  This is a great way not only to work on refining your skill, but to also work as a team for a desired outcome.  Working in groups of 3, 3 riders per team.   Team penning is a western equestrian sport that evolved from the common ranch work of separating cattle into pens.

No experience is necessary, the clinic caters to all participants. Morning team and BBQ lunch provided and accommodation available at the premise. Spectators welcome to attend for small fee of $20.00 per day.

Just Equus’ Mechanical Cow & Obstacle Clinic.  The Mechanical Cow* program is designed to help riders to establish their correct position in preparation for working a cow. The obstacle component help riders establish a more respectful and willingness relationship on the ground.

*About the Mechanical Cow: it is a device used for training your horse to work a cow, stop straight, improve roll backs and maintain proper position.

No experience is necessary, the clinic will cater to all participants. Morning team provided.  Riders to bring their own lunch. Spectators welcome to attend for FREE.

Stock Camp (Cattle) & Colt Starting Clinic

Just Equus 2.5 Day Stock Camp Clinic are suitable for riders who want to further their horsemanship working with cattle in a safe and fun environment.

This clinic will teach you how to position your horse to attain the desired reaction from the beast, and all the manoeuvres necessary to achieve it.   We will work on speed control, stops, turns and where to position your horse on the cow.  Learn step-by-step exercises to set your horse up for success in campdrafting, team penning, cattle sorting or mustering.

No experience is necessary; the clinic will cater to all participants, from introducing your horses on cattle through to preparing your horse for competition.  Full catering provided and accommodation available at the premise. Spectators welcome to attend for a fee of $20.00 per day.

Just Equus 5 Day Colt Starting Clinic are suitable for riders with a young horse wanting to start a successful riding career, or for those who want to restart a horse.  We will show you the right techniques to apply ground control, desensitisation, long reining and body control under saddle.  This clinic will cover mouthing, saddling and mounting for the first time.

Horse Requirements: You will need to bring an unbroken horse or one you are wanting to restart to work with over the 5 days.  The horse needs to be of suitable age (under 3 years for unbroken and those you wish to re-start that have already been broken in there no age limit), and condition for you to progress to riding it and must be able to lead.  We also require the rider to  bring another horse to do ridden horsemanship.  This will help you in readiness to ride your colt.

Horse Gear to Bring: Saddle, saddle pad, girth to fit, riding helmet (optional), halter with long lead (strong enough to secure horse e.g yachting rope), dinner hobbles or chain hobbles, flag (no whips), headstall to fit with simple snarled bit or Bosal, mane and body brush curry comb, and horse rug (optional).  Not mandatory but if the rirder can use a lariat 40′ minimum.

Morning tea and lunch provided for riders, accommodation available at the premise.  Spectators welcome to attend for fee of $30.00 per day.  Limited to 8 riders only.
