Starting a young horse journey – Oakey

Our first breaker of 2024!

Thank you, TJ, for entrusting us with your loveable paint gelding – Oakey. Oakey cam to Just Equus already a well-mannered, good nurtured and quiet horse. We endeavoured to get Oakey to a point where he enjoyed riding outside, which we acheieved, with the emphasis on h im riding in a halter as he is a still young horse and still cutting teeth.

Oakey has been a pleasure to saddle with a no need for any heavy lunging. Basically, get on and go for a ride through some of our challenging hills and gullies. Oakey is a sure-footed horse and confident out on the trails.  From day one, always in the lead and has a very good walk on him for a young horse.

“I enjoyed riding him very much.” – Peter Biggs

Considering the stop, start nature with the extended period of relentless rain and bad weather, Oakey always came back in as if we had only stopped the day before.

After consultation with TJ, we believed that a good break now for two to four months would be beneficial for him while he continues to grow and then bring him back in and get him prepped for riding in a bridal and expand on his education.
